My Philosophy

It is my belief that we are all much more than simply the product of our past or our biologic predispositions. We are each, in every moment, fluid and changing – a state of constant evolution. Although we are imprinted and shaped to some extent by our experiences – these constructs are not fixed, the feelings and behaviors are not permanent – they can change. Very much as in the Taoist tradition’s concept of pu’ – we are eternally the "uncarved block" – a wondrously open and free state of potential – always at the edge of "becoming" something else, something more, something different.

I’m not suggesting that the impact of our past experiences will be erased or simply go away, but we can learn to hold them in a different light and not be self-condemned to repeat old unhealthy patterns. It’s not about our capacity for change – it’s about our willingness to embrace new choices and behaviors. When we are ready and committed, we can grow through and beyond almost any obstacle.
